Snook Island Restoration Fieldtrip
The first field trip that my graduate level Environmental Restoration seminar class took was to the Lake Worth Lagoon to see the Snook Island restoration project. This project was performed by Palm Beach County's Department of Environmental Resources Management (ERM). The goal of the project is to increase shoreline, wetland, seagrass, and mangrove habitat, increase oyster abundance, remove exotics, and fill deep dredge holes. Julie Mitchell, from ERM, gave a guest lecture concerning ERM's restoration decision making, planning, and implementation processes the Monday prior to the field trip. Eric Anderson, also of ERM, guided us around the Snook Island project the following Saturday. Everyone in the class appreciated both Julie's and Eric's efforts, and I personally thank them and ERM for their time and great work. The pictures follow.
